Services - Virtualisation
In computing terms, virtualisation refers to running more than one instance of a computer operating system on a single piece of hardware. With hardware getting more and more powerful, sometimes it is not cost-effective to have individual pieces of hardware to run small applications.
Technology such as VMware Server allow multiple instances of Windows Server or Windows XP/Vista on one physical computer. So if you have a large number of computers that are performing backoffice functions and they are not being utilised to their full capacity, then consider virtualising them onto one or 2 pieces of hardware. This will cut down on office space used, and also reduce your electricity costs.
Another use for virtualisation is to provide remote working facilities to your staff. Having 1 dedicated computer can allow around 5 seperate virtual machines which can be configured to be accessed remotely so that staff can work from home on their own PC and access your company's systems without the cost of providing them with a laptop and the associated costs of maintaining it.
